Bundling the Interests of the Members and Speaking with One Voice

Associations are often faced with a difficult task. The interests of their members often widely diverge, many are competitors and also vary in terms of size and economic power. However, the task of associations is to win over the public or politicians using one voice. Effective communication is absolutely necessary for this – both internally and externally.

Kohl PR has more than 25 years of experience in the area of association communication and as the bridgehead of our clients in Berlin. Our experience shows that the answers to the following questions are the essential foundation for successful association communication:

  • What are the goals of the association which are accepted by all of the members?
  • What is its unique feature which is reflected in all of the members?
  • What does it stand for in the public opinion and on the political stage?
  • What are the central communication goals which apply for all members?

These questions are at the centre of the first conversation that we have with our clients. In doing so, as many previous communication campaigns should be analysed as possible. The results of this meeting are the basis for the development of the communication strategy and the campaign – always tailored to the special needs and means of the association. We place a special focus on internal communication, since the publicity work of an association can only be successful if it is supported by the members.
